Research

Sensors:

Velmathi’s research group, where we not only concentrate on publications but also we strive hard to aid societal development via our discoveries. Our research group is chiefly focused on the development of small organic molecules as sensors based on the phenomenon of colorimetric and fluorescence change with toxic cations, anions, nefarious warfare agents, baleful small molecules like hydrazine and biomolecules including reactive species and amino acids. We don’t really stop with sensing in the laboratory but also extend our application to bio-imaging in living cells which would amazingly possible with our synthesized fluorescent systems to study the respective analytes in alive systems.

Nano materials:

 Freshly, we expanded our research in synthesis of nanomaterials for catalytic applications, organic transformations and sensing. In addition to sensing applications, bio-imaging of particular events with fluorescent nano materials.

Natural product and multi component synthesis:

In addition to sensing applications and Bio-imaging, we are also involved in natural products, one pot and spiro compound synthesis for the application of anti-bacterial, anti-viral and antifungal studies. We also intended to do hetero aromatics for pharmacokinetic studies of molecules for drug delivery applications. Hence our research discoveries has profound applications in the field of medicine, biology and environmental chemistry. We rigorously aspire for welfare of mankind through our research findings.

Metal organic frameworks and porous materials:

We also developed metal organic frameworks and porous materials for specific organic reactions, catalysis of some reactions, photo catalytic degradation of dyes and also for sensing applications . The cavity and large surface area of the framework was utilized for sensing of small biomolecules or ionic species.
